Be Wary of These Mistakes When You Install a New HVAC System

Installing a new HVAC system is a big investment and requires home owners to take numerous important decisions with respect to the size and features of the new unit. Purchasing or installing a system that is not appropriate or adequate for your house will result in large scale wastage of resources, not to mention, all the inconvenience that will come your way.

It is best to do your homework and learn about all that must be checked before making your purchase. Knowing where you could get confused or go wrong in your choices will also help you to avoid ending up with the incorrect system.

Here are some of the most common mistakes that people make when installing a new HVAC system.

  1. Buying an incorrectly sized system

Most homeowners believe that a large system equals better heating and cooling; or a small sized system means a lower price. Both of these assumptions can result in wastage of precious time, energy and most importantly, money.

A large system does not provide better output because it consumes too much energy, runs longer, which causes wear and tear of parts quickly, and keeps restarting before it can cool your place or remove moisture from the air properly.

A system that is small for your house, will have to run longer as well, to attain the desired temperature and hence have a shorter life.

  1. Not informing yourself about energy efficiency

A system’s ability to make your home comfortable, largely depends on its energy efficiency. An energy efficient system will greatly contribute to lower utility bills at home. While choosing a new system, there are mainly two things to look for: an Energy Star rated product and the unit’s SEER rating. The more efficient your system is, the more money you save on energy in the long run.

A system with SEER rating 13 and above is a good option.

  1. Not checking for servicing and maintenance

If there is a malfunction in your system, you do not immediately need to bring in a new HVAC. Regular servicing and maintenance can keep your system functioning smoothly. Problems, if any, can be fixed after an inspection by professional HVAC technicians. If repaired in time, the system will continue to run properly, without you having to spend large amounts on expensive parts or replacements.

  1. Solely focusing on price

Although price is an important factor when choosing a new system, it must not be the only one. It is true that you will only buy something that fits your budget. But an energy-efficient system, although slightly expensive will help you save money on energy later, and is worth the initial expenditure. Selecting a system only because it costs less, means that you may be compromising on certain important features. This will result in more money being spent on energy and repairs.

  1. Choosing the wrong HVAC company

Choosing the right Northern California HVAC company, that has trained professionals and has been vetted, is crucial to your HVAC needs.
